    hi there guys.
    I want to share with you a nice idea I have thought for making diablo 2 even more interesting.
    Since the gold is not something very important in this game, I suggest making it.
    How?
    Well it's simple :
    an example : make Charsi or Natalya or Gheed sell a rune, for example vex for 1 million gold, prices may differ a little, but you get the idea. Since the maximum selling price of any item is 35000 gold, there won't be any problems of crawling around or making an exploit out of this :).

    Tell me what you think and if I get some positive and negative replies , I will make a pool later :)

    I don't think this is a good idea and here is why:
    with a GF Barb I can fill my stash's gold capacity in 3-4 Tristram runs. Before the reset I averaged 500K per run, not counting item sales.
    I just think gold is a lost cause in D2. Items, that's where the thing is at. Show me a game where they have made "gold" fun to use. A lot of MMOS and RPGs use gold and it is very boring.
    A barter-type economy is much more engaging for the players. Here are 2 examples where the stark differences shine the most: Path of Exile and Diablo 3. While PoE flourished by utilising "orbs" as currency, instead of gold, Diablo 3's economy plummeted and Blizzard was forced to abandon the auction house feature. The truth is, randomness keeps people engaged. Just the thought that you have the chance for that Jah to drop from Nilly, or that Templar from the Pits. I know I like to do Countess runs for the thrill of getting high runes. In the last 100 runs I have gotten an Ohm, 2 Ists and a Mal. Yet, the previous 50 I had 2 Lo runes drop for me along with a bundle of Ohms and Vexes.
    Anyway, that is my stance on the issue, maybe others can chip in.

    TL;DR
    Gold is useless. Barter is king.

    Maybe add something that doesnt affect the games economy directly like Tokens in shop for gold-

    You can always gamble for nice ciclets and jewelry. Odds suck but theres not much you can do.

    This is a long stretch but imagine this: The shop sells an ingredient for 1,5 mil gold. You need 10-20 of those ingredients (balance to be determined). You cube them with an amulet and you have a 10% chance to roll a 20 FRW.

    I don't think this is something game-breaking, yet it makes gold worthwhile. It will also cause people to experiment with gold find.

    This means adding more items to the game that aren't intended to exist - this should be done carefully if at all. MrHammer mentioned gamble, and gamble is where it's at when it comes to the value of gold - too bad very few understand this. Of course, the odds of getting something are very low. So, if you are in the need of enhancing the use of gold, I would suggest looking at increasing chances to get rare items from gamble. Maybe the chances of getting uniques too.

    Perhaps ferrum's suggestion is the most unobtrusive and fits the theme of the server best (increased rates). I would like to avoid seeing/using custom items.

    Gold = Gamble. Gamble is good like it is. Rare items can be the most unbalanced thing in that game.. with higher gambling rate it will be game breaking.
