Silly question about SOJ

Is there a trick to get tons of Stone of Jordan? I played today (09/05/2013) and noticed something peculiar :huhfrom 01 to 02:40am / GMT -5):

I havent been online lately, but they way I found a fair amount was on classic LOD.

 

It's not such a silly question. The thing that few people realise, is that in LOD (The Expansion) there are tons of Unique rings as well as other unique items. While in D2 Classic there are only 3 unique Rings and a very limited list of other unique items. You get the same number of overall drops in both versions of the game, BUT with a much smaller pool of uniques in Classic must obviously give you a better chance to find a SoJ in Classic. I found 5xSoJ's in a few hours doing runs in classic yesterday.

Now don't be fooled. You have all heard that SoJ drops at Nightmare Andy. Yes that may be the case in LoD but not so in Classic. I've been doing this for years and it took me a very long time to realise that the area level for NM Andy in Classic (alvl 37) is toooo Low. SoJ only drops in alvl 39 and above. Best place to farm SoJ on this server is without doubt NM Travical as well as NM Mephisto and do not miss up on the drops from her council.

To make a "Classic" character all you do at the character creation screen "untick" the "Expansion" radio box. After you find the SoJ's you transfer them to a mule then convert that character to an expansion character then go kill Diablo Clone for your Annies ----- Easy

btw. I use a Hybrid Sorce to farm. 1 point into Energy Shield, 1 point into Static, Max Frozen Orb & Ice Bolt, Max Fire Ball then rest into Meteor. 10 points into energy minimum STR (<50), Dex (<41) and rest into Vitality. WARNING!!!! there are only 3 respeck opportunities in Classic. Gear = Twitchroe, Wall of the Eyeless, Spectral Shard & Magefist. Rare Helm, Rare Boots and Rare Demonhide Sash. Collect as much gold as you can so you can gamble in hell for that all perfect 1 to Sorceress Amulet. The first 2 SoJ's you find make up her rings.

Edit: Look for any "CJ_Character" in game if you would like a "Classic" rush

 

I can't seem to edit my post again. I was stunned by my stupidity today when I took a look at my gear. To hit the 9fps cast rate you only need 63% in classic. So with the Spectral Shard and Magefists you are well covered there. That then leaves the all important shield open to cover your resistances and any shortcomings in the FHR. Nothing easier than a 3xPerf Diamond Shield or a simply use "The Ward"

 

if drops here are 10x it shouldnt be very hard. try MFing NM andy

 

hello, Ive ran NM trav and Mepth for about 3 days now. Maybe im just superrrrrr unlucky but i get the ring drops but as i Identify them im always getting the same two rings. I don't know if it does not drop here anymore or what. Im playing on classic.

 

I have had decent luck finding soj from the summoner while im key hunting, i know nigtmare diablo is a good place to look as well, hell trav does well for me and even blood raven from hell has gained me a few soj so if you cant do hell trav shes a good place to hit up.

 

Expansion or classic?

 

I play exp but I cant imagine much has changed from these bosses on classic.
All the places I mentioned are still there after all.

 

yep bloodraven is pretty underrated.
i remember once i killed her just for fun and found arach (was worth a bit on ladder reset)

I'm not aware of any changes ever being made to drop rates or any other rates on this server. I find it extremely hard to believe that you could be that unlucky running classic NM trav/meph. I have actually documented my SoJ drop rates (it's been a while) on this server and was averaging 1 SoJ per 15 runs in Classic. Please note that while SoJ will drop from NM Andy in Expansion, it will only start dropping from Mid Act 2 in Classic.

Please don't just do 15 runs then call me out on it. Do like 100+ then come back with your results.

I will join Classic today because I'm just really curious about it after reading you guys....So can you guys give me any tips on how to start??....Also if there is people who can give me a rush or if it's not possible on classic....I always played LOD so I have no idea on what to expect from it......I hope I get some advice about this!....Thanks in advance people!

 

Slayer, Classic is the bare bones version of Diablo. There are no runes, charms and jewels. It has very limited unique/set items and there is no act 5.

If you are playing HC then i would recommend starting with a necromancer summoner. In Softcore nothing beats a Hammerdin. and farming Travicle with Hammer is obviously easy peasy.

I've been running Travical with a classic character in NM like carson4550 and have not had any success finding SoJ's either. I've had my inventory completely full with unidentified rings from numerous runs and have not found a single one. Is there something we're missing?

 

It is something like 1 in 32 unique rings in classic. Sometimes I find 2 in 10 runs, sometimes 1 in 60.
It is faster to use a holy shock paladin on normal cows for gems and sell 300 for ber. Ber = 8 ohm = 8 soj.
Classic cows are about twice as fast for gems as compared to expansion. I average about 20 gems a run.

 

Hi Choppa - I can't explain the problem. I did 25 runs the other day just to check this and also came up empty handed.
