Quick Question about the new realm

Now I'm in Canada, so the whole eu realm doesnt matter that much to me.. but im wondering.. why not use the eu dedicated as just another ip for the d2gs.. that way its the same realm.. and the eu people can make games until they get an eu ip to connect to.. If I remember correctly, you can do that.. its all done through the PVPGN and D2GS I believe, just a suggestion kinda sorta to fix the issue of having the player base split up and solving the latency issue as well..

ALSO, if anything... why not use the eu server as a kind of "in-between" server.. where you guys implement changes and allow people to test them.. IE: items, balancing, etc.. the point is not to focus on exp or drops.. so youd have to set them real high.. but the idea would be to make changes in items, skills, etc.. make new ones.. what have you, then have the players test and vote if they would like to see it implemented on the "main" or us realm.. again, using the eu one as also a secondary ip for the main server..

just my two cents.. take it or leave it. haha.

 

My idea was just to make it sort of like Battle.net where there are multiple IP's you can connect and create your game from without having to change from lets say USwest to US east or US realm to Eu realm. (Like dclone only spawning on some USwest games, etc) I would guess that you could change the conf files and run just d2gs on the eu dedicated. I've seen it done and been part of realms that have done it.

Again.. Haven't had to set this up for quite a while.. I could be slightly wrong.. Doesn't mean that I don't know how pvpgn and D2GS work.

And the idea of having people involved with the testing and new changes was just an idea to make the players feel more involved with the process.. again.. an idea.

 

Well Battle.net is not using Pvpgn and D2gs to host their servers, right?!

The characters will still have to be saved on server side, so no matter what you do you will suffer from high ping unless you can figure a way to automatically redirect a certain user to a more appropriate server, and somehow make these servers exchange data almost instantly. And since the whole problem is a computer making data exchange with another, an EU server exchanging all EU users data with the US server is doomed to make everything slow if not crushed.

This is too SF to even be considered, just because there are 2 active users on the US realm left.
You either find a good way to get more US users (there are a few large US Pvpgn servers active), you change realm and endure the lag, or you simply go to another server. I honestly don't see any other choice, I am pretty sure these guys are not Blizzard employees and can't make things magically appear to merge the two realms, especially when 90%+ of server's users are EU Realm users.

BTW, I maybe wrong, unlike you guys I know nothing about coding and shit, it's just just my two cents worth on this matter.
