403 error means that either the antivirus or firewall is blocking the connection. Do you have an antivirus on your W7?
And why would you use the VM OS if your main OS is Windows 7? Run Diablo on your main OS, the one with Windows 7.

I've seen the same issue on someone that had a corrupted install of Avast and after uninstalling the antivirus, installing the realm patch and re-installing avast everything was fine. (the D2 folder was added to exceptions list too)

Follow the steps I have indicated above and if it's not working send me a private message with your skype id.

Well, I fixed the problem. I just exec the "Game.exe" in compatibility mode, Windows NT 4.0 sp5. Is vmware workstation 11, not 9, my bad.

So, I think never was a problem with the antivirus or the firewall, because i didn't change anything.

I use a vm because I can use win XP no matter the main OS, like linux or windows. Also, because the portability, all I need is to copy the virtual disk to a flash drive, and I can use it in any computer with a vm player. And, I can modify the guest OS to work better with his main purpose, in this case playing d2 lod ;). Diabo 2 lod runs better on win XP, in my experience . I been doing this for several years now.

Usually http error 403 means a denial of service from the server, not a connection problem. Is like the petition reaches the server, and the server "says no".

Correct, 403 is a webserver error that reffers to denial or an unaccesible/non-existant file but this wasn't the case since the block was happening on your side. Usually that's related to a software that handles the connections but I'm glad to see that the compatibility helped.

    Thanks for posting. Enjoy!
