My maphack is no longer working after the patch. Apparently this issue is happening with some people and not others. Gix has openly spoken his opinions so I figured I'd post a screen shot of the error message and get some secondary input. Next I guess I will attempt to do a complete reinstall on the game.

Windows 8.1. Administrative priv enabled on all critical files. When I try to load the game with maphack it crashes . . . I tried redownloading the maphack from the forum and it still crashes. The same problem happens whether or not I run the Game.exe for full screen or Loader for windowed. I had no problems until the patch, and I'm not a techy. Your guess is as good as mine. I thought maybe it was a GFX issue so I ran VidTest and went through all of my options with no further luck.

    The error reads as follows:

    Unhandled Exception:
    Access Violation (c0000005)

I figured an access violation might mean admin privileges, but I'm not doing anything any differently than I did before the path. I'm currently reinstalling to see what happens next.

After reinstalling the error is occurring regardless and the game crashes. There must be some settings that were changed. I'm going through all of the old files. Maybe I'm missing something. Now everything is fouled up for me.

Edit: Changing the compatibility changed the error message. I've tried Windows 7 and Windows XP SP2 with no luck now.

Edit: Changing compatibility to Window XP SP3 loads the game just fine. The maphack still crashes with the same error as before.

My question would be with GameGuard and how it loads. My maphack has the same admin privs as the other files. It's weird that I can get the game to load without the maphack, but with the maphack I now receive the same error that privileges fixed. Now that I know how to recreate the error message I am starting to wonder. . . There's a correlation somewhere, but I'm too "ignorant" too find it.

The compatibility issue is the same on my machine for Red Alert 2 and Yuri's, but I had to do some other things to make it work. Nevertheless both games work. The same seems to go for Diablo. I just don't understand why this issue didn't present itself prior to the patch. I get the feeling it has something to do with GameGuard and none of the D2 patch files themselves. I've played around with different settings for 3 hours now. Full screen and windowed work just fine. In fact everything is running smoothly outside of the maphack crashing the game with the same error I receive when the priv settings aren't set right. I'll leave it to you guys. I don't know what else to try, but I'm definitely not crazy. Cheers.

Edit: Does Windows 8 have something similar to DrWtsn32 so I can possibly track down "no man's land"?

Where is your hackmap located ? If it's inside the same folder as Diablo II, move it to your desktop and keep it separate.

I have tried both the version in the D2 directory, and I downloaded it again and saved a folder to the desktop. Both produce the exact same results. Let me know if you come up with any other ideas, I'm still fiddling around.

Edit : What I find interesting is the .DLL loads successfully in maphack, or so it says. The access violation then appears. In my limited knowledge doesn't an access violation more or less mean there is a string of code not reaching the intended destination, or it is falling into the metaphorical abyss of binary? I thought maybe if I tried running the game on DirectDraw or something it would fix it. I found some other threads that had this issue, but they were related to graphics, and Glide specifically. I didn't have the problem before. My next idea is to install the original 1.11 patch and run the maphack on single player and see if I can recreate the effect again. If I could get a crash report or something maybe I could figure out where it's going wrong, why I asked about DrWatson, but windows 8 is flippin' stupid.

Edit2 : Okay! I moved the folder from the D2 directory to replace the folder on the desktop, which is the MH I downloaded from our suggested forum post here. I managed to get the DLL to load while I was logged into battle net and the game crashed without a warning message this time. Going to try something else. I did turn off auto-load on the MH.

Edit3 : Autoload works now with the MH folder downloaded with the patch moved to the desktop. Now the game crashes without an error when I try to make a game on BNet. Going to try a single player game next.

Confirm: Maphack is working on single player now.

Edit4 : Maphack is now working on Bnet, but 2 out of 5 games created crash my game. Joining games seems to not produce the same result.

Going to continue to fiddle. The framerate is terrible.

Hi, unfortunately I've encountered the same issue. Even after re-installing a different version of the MH still the problem persists.

I'm getting the same error as above. Gonna keep trying to find solutions, but please let us know if you have any other ideas.

Just so you know it, I'm using Windows 8.1 .

    Cheers,

Windows 8.1 is known for issues regarding MH, although some people got no issues.

Forgot to ask. Are you both using full screen? If yes then switch to windowed mode.

No, I'm using the windowed option.
I'm testing now a few more mh's, will come back with an outcome :).
