90% of time, while attempting to join other game or create my own, game freezes right after "Please wait... [Cancel]" message box disappears.
In such event, EuropeBattle.exe process eats whole cpu, making it very difficult to shut it off.

I got some help and tried few things but nothing really worked.

Random things that seemed to help sometimes: Restarting comp, updating registry with .reg file, switching game video settings.
I noticed that regardless of what video settings I choose, every time I run D2VidTst.exe it shows GLIDE as selected, but that might just be the nature of D2VidTst.exe.

I'm running WindowsXP SP3. ATI MOBILITY RADEON Xpress 200 Series video card. No antivirus or anything of such kind what could mess with the game.

In one folder I have vanilla lod with MedianXL via D2SE.
In other folder I have vanilla lod overwritten with this server files.

I played this game for... scary amount of years, different servers, mods, my own modifications, dealt with diablo 2 problems on multiple operating systems, but never faced such issue as this, so I assume it's this server related.

The problem is on your side and there could be a ton of reasons for that.

"No antivirus or anything of such kind what could mess with the game." -- don't be surprised if you got problems without an active antivirus.

Updating the .reg, restarting should not influence your high cpu usage unless you have a OS/PC issue.

You can google for "high cpu usage process" but you should start with reinstalling the game (doubt that helps though) and even better, reinstall a fresh operating system because most likely a malware is causing this.

i guess i wrote too much words to read, so you misunderstood the issue... Only upon attempting to host or join a game, Europebattle.exe process gets stuck in an infinite loop, thats what causes high cpu usuage.
in all other cases the cpu usage is fine. be it playing other d2 mods, watching youtube or anything at all.

I did understood your problem and same advice applies. What you get is definetly not normal and it's the first time I hear about such issue too. The europebattle.exe process is a copy of the default game.exe process itself.

    1. Try running the game.exe (eventually you can create a shortcut and add the -w parameter for window mode) and see if same thing happens.
    2. Have you tried a complete uninstall (don't forget to delete registry files and the entire folder as well) followed by a fresh install under a different folder?

I'm glad I adviced you about that then but still I can't find the logic behind this as the europebattle.exe executable it's a 1:1 copy of the game.exe (it's just renamed, nothing more) but it's working and this is what matters.

    Cheers

You can't. This has to do with your computer, not with the game. Perform a fresh OS reinstall if this keeps happening and make sure you're not having some external connection issues before that, which I doubt though.

You could browse some it forums over google where people might help with the PC memory dumps and event viewer logs but this won't guarantee a solution.
