I'm having difficulties with this trend in Diablo 2 where everyone gets rushed through all the difficulties, levels with a few HB runs then cries that they can't play because they don't have any gear. Someone will donate gear and then they complain that they can't find better gear.

People just don't know where to find stuff and have unreasonable expectations regarding drops. Many Many level 90+ characters have no idea where to find the body parts for the quests in act 3. The reason? Well it's obvious. They don't play the game.

The game was designed to be played through several acts with several areas and in 3 difficulty levels. It was designed in such a way that people would level and find gear along the way, constantly improving on what you are wearing.

Yes sure, guys that have been playing for years but are new to the server might very well prefer to be rushed. I don't entirely understand it, but it is what it is.

Personally I have generally stopped donating gear, especially end game stuff on softcore. (Hardcore is a totally different ballgame). I also refrain from rushing people but I will most often create a new character to play alongside them.

I hope more people start doing the same.

I agree with you mate but alot of players online always seem too be eager too get rushed dont even play the game just too hit high level then sit in baals leveling i can understand there after top spot but in the old days with no teleport runewords and items we all had too do it the old fashioned way as i found out rushing myself in hc all the way too hell its always nice too find them body parts in spider cavern flayer and sewers brings back the memories lol but its just the age we live in now everyones in a rush too do whatever there doing life is short as they say maybe cause were both oldies(well you are im youngish lol) we know what we had too do but most players havent played on old patches so dont really know what a walk through is in the game sad really but times of changed :(

you're right and it is a serious problem.
    but what can you do?
if nobody will get rushed they have to play alone, because there aren't many new players at one time. and this is not the right way to integrate new player into the community.

also i dont give free items too new players. in my opinion they have to farm their own items, if they get all for free they be like "why mfing when i get all free anyway?".
result: most players leave the server after 3 days again.

"Give a man a fish and he will have a great meal. Teach him to fish - he will never be hungry again."

I'm not saying we should stop being 'the good guys' and not give any items to people at all. But let's face it - nice, unselfish people often get abused, and in time people start thinking that that is the way it goes. On the other hand, if you do something like this:
Give a newcomer Mara and Shako, rush him to Travincal, show him a viable build for his char in order to defeat the Councils, play with him a few Travincal runs and teach him the basics of defeating that level and tell him "this is where you get rich"...
Well, in short - lots of small things make a huge difference. :)

I've found that when I give items out to new players they quit shortly after (a.k.a. I never see them in game anymore). I support rushing mainly because of nostalgia. When I was 11 years old in 2002 I used to spend most of my allowance on computer cafes. I knew nothing about how Diablo 2 worked/was meant to be played. The only way to progress was through rushing performed by a friend.
However, 12 years later, I will rush only people who are lvl 24+. Requesting a rush when you are lvl 1 is just a ridiculous waste of my time. It takes maybe 1 hour with breaks to reach that level!
Furthermore, instead of giving items out to new players, I just suggest they make a blizzard sorc and farm NM meph for a couple of hours. Problem solved. Too lazy? With that attitude you ain't getting anywhere in d2, buddy :)

As you guys may notice i do alot of rushing some people i rush are well known and have high level char so i dont mind but as you say some come in join the realm ask for rush in channel without even killing a monster then they make a game and all they say is i need items blah blah i will give some free items away too players who i see a few times or i spoke to but random players i have give items too just take them never to be seen again or end up messaging you saying i cant kill in hell can u help and so on but in the old days of diablo we had to grind and work together to help and build chars but kids these days expect hand outs and not doing anything for it which is wrong but its the way life is these days PS If anyone ever needs a rush and im online let me know i will reply good luck all :)

My response of late has been "I'll come play with you", and I'll literally make a temporary character that I'll play alongside the new player. Sure I'll use my other "main characters" to give us wp's and perhaps even help skip through collecting the parts in act 3 but other than that, nope, we'll literally play the game.

And as for items. I'm sorry but I don't have any. The drops here are just THAT high, that the new players CAN and SHOULD find them them selves.

I mean why come play Diablo otherwise? The whole purpose of the game is finding gear to improve your character. Remove that from the game and you are being selfish (I'm a nice guy I give free bla bla bla).

ALSO (While I'm about it) Why MUST everyone start with a sorceress? Please guys STOP telling people that they MUST start off with a Sorceress. Tristram runs do NOT need a damn Sorceress! AND Runes will drop anywhere when you last expect them. YOU Do NOT have to have a damn Sorceress to find them. In fact you probably bounce your way over hundreds of high runes without ever knowing it.

Lets Please all help encourage "Game Play" and stuff all this senseless "Rushing" to get people out of the game.

i feel these people would end up undergeared without a rush too. if having this people here is a trouble, then i suggest to open a PvE section on this forum (even though the server seems pvp focused :D) where people are allowed to post walkthroughs or some educational videoes etc..etc... (or make a link to jsp pve section witch is already full off stuff). this will help your people to recognize it takes mediate amout of time to have acceptable gear on your char and it would answer all the how to questions aswell.

To add to this conversation, yes rushing new players is kinda bad and I'll agree to that.

But let's take me for example (No really high character but still enough to get by). I started by playing amazon then rerolled to druid which then became my main (amazon 86 druid 91 atm). After that I wanted a barb to have fun on, now I have the items and yes leveling is fast on this server but why spend 10 hours on it when I could spend 2? Just examples...

I can understand people wanting rushes when they already have a character and means to get items for their new character with this one rather then the usual rush my one and only character.

Myself I have 4 Characters, 3 I use constantly my Javzon, My Light Sorc, and my uber pali, my last character is my pvp character a ww sin.
I Used my uber pali as my main and he was my starter, he did quite well farming the council in hell and I was able to gather up enough gear to throw together a sorc for countess runs after that I began finishing out my pali gear then built the javzon that actually shares half her gear with my sorc.

I notice allot of newer players seem to think they need a full list of fully decked out characters all with its own gear, this is not the case for me as I use my sorc's coh on my zeal pali when i run ubers, as well as using it on my javzon when I do chaos or cows.

If any new players want to farm up some good items they should really try running a zeal pali through hell trav, they are cheap and easy to build and can survive well in hell without optimal gear.

    here, here. +1

on a sidenote, i myself only play with ONE character. Yup. Just one. if more people focused on just one character, 1- they would naturally be better equipped, no splitting recources, 2- it would free up gear for other players, The level 9? hammerdin has jacked a nightwing in a baalrun when there were other scorcess in same game that that could have been there trophy, to him it was just a reason to start a another character to complement his hordes of already god like toons. ( just a common type scenario) i rembember when if it wasnt for my class i dint try to keep it because one i couldnt use it and two inventory space was so limited. makes me almost miss those days. perhaps if there was a limit on how many characters a person could have....
