getting this error, anyone that could take a qualified guess on whats the problem is?

    tried to reinstal it twice
    applied the realm patch
    added the gateway manually
tried running it with comp mod: w7 and xp sp 2, still got the same error.
    tried deactivating antivirus (bitdefender)

    Still the same issue.

    running w8.1 64bit

edit: have it working on my first computer, but cant seem to get it started on my laptop

Also have it checked to run as admin in the properties of the loader?

With Windows 8.1 it makes everything a bit more tricky, I highly dislike 8.1, Did you add the loader to your data protection?

And also Windows 8.1 is touchy when it comes to the MH, if you are using a normal stings MH at same time as opening or even it being in the diablo folder may be a reason to the error message. If you think it could be a reason why try the error message then go to the main server page under the "Alternate download links" and grab the Version 3 BH maphack version near the bottom of the page and use with your Diablo loader and see if it makes a difference.

No idea what happend, probably I was too sleepy and forgot to hit the submit button last night when I replied to your thread because I can't see my post here.

That error usually comes up when the gateway is incorrect so double check that (manually) or you need a DEP permission as @Jesus said. Read this post and follow the instructions in order to add the .exe files into DEP data protection.
If you are using bitdefender, you don't have to disable it (you can't totally anyway). Make sure to add the entire d2 folder to exceptions list and that should be all, although if bitdefender was the cause you would have got an error like "Except Connection"

@polo2005, If you're still facing issues drop me a PM with your skype ID and I'll remotely assist you.
