    What is this guide?
This a guide that explains what “ebug/ebugged armor” is, and how you can make it. The process works a little differently on this server. Ebug is a defense bug when socketing an eth item with ED, resulting in the armor having up to 6,000 defense or more.

    What armors can be bugged?
Ethereal body armor, helms and shields that have an ED mod. This includes class-specific items such as barbarian helms and paladin shields. The process for bugging is different between runeword bases and unique items.

How do I bug a unique item?
You simply need to socket the item with any rune or jewel, then remove using the cube recipe of hel rune + scroll of TP. You repeat this process until the defense no longer increases. After this, the defense will remain at maximum. You can remove whatever rune or jewel is inside and still use that socket for whatever you want.

How do I bug a runeword base?
To do this you need to make a runeword that has ED, then remove in cube with hel rune + scroll of TP. You repeat this process until the defense no longer increases. The commonly used runewords to ebug are:

    3 socket armor: Duress
    4 socket armor: Stone
    4 socket shield: Exile

The maximum defense any armor/shield/helm will reach, without base ED, is 2037. Superior items that include base ED will have a slightly higher defense (2037 * 1.XX where XX = base ED)
If you require more guidance, a step-by-step detailed guide with images on the ethereal bugging process can be found at http://forum.europebattle.net/threads/ethereal-bug-ebug-picture-guide.547128/

It's not necessary to use pul, even el rune will work.

Does it have to be the same runeword?

Can I start with Smoke and once the def stops going up switch it to Prudence? (So I don't eat through so many Mal's)

For 2 socket - yes, Smoke is the runeword used for bugging.

The maximum defense will be the same regardless, the only thing that will change is the str requirement so it's better to leave it if you plan on bugging it.

Templar might is already an elite version of that armour [normal > exceptional > elite].
If you are still looking for the horadric cube recipe for upgrading unique items, i strongly suggest you try one magic site, called google.
When you type "Horadric Cube recipes" into the google search bar, it will provide you following link: http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/cube.shtml ...
Over there, you can find all your rotten diablo hearth might be looking for.

Can you made a simple video of making ebug with the armors and other stuff becouse i dont get it quite right.
My first try was like this:
    > I have ScarabHusk Armor (ETH) - clean
    > I put THUL and TAL runes and Perfect Topaz to socket the Scarab. ( Output is 3 clean(noed) )
    > Next i put EL and i remove it with Hel+TP and from 750def i got 405def - here is my problem i got lower def, not Higher, like it's suppose to be.

Can you show me the right way to UP my armor with few simple instructions/ or video if possible.
    Thanks in advance, Good day.

Your problem is that you need to make a runeword that has ed not just put EL. Read the first post of this topic and you follow the instructions.

I'm curious - why do you need a royal shield specifically. Sacred Targe looks better (to me) on all counts and is much easier to farm from griswold.
