So I've been getting this error suddenly, the game was working fine prior, even after this recent update, then the error just started happening. I tried uninstalling D2 and reinstalling, not sure what's going on? Anyone else have this issue? Made sure everything was on xp sp2, admin settings, made sure it was -w with loader shortcut... weird how it would suddenly just do that.

EDIT: tried uninstalling and doing a cold boot. Then install it again... not working

I can't think of anything else. Thank you.

Hey, did you try running the game.exe instead of the loader ?

So I fixed the Error, thanks to Gix's error post @ http://forum.gamesymbol.com/f842/[fix]-diablo-ii-common-errors-532466/#post764273

It was weird, because I have never done this before, now I used this method to fix it.

    Props! Thanks Gix!

This game is old and weird my friend. As I've told others, the maphack or the game itself could stop running and become glitchy after a simple computer restart, software installation, registry changes.

Usually if you get any error during clicking the "Connect to..." button it's either DEP as you found already or the folder has to be added inside the antivirus exceptions list.

Glad to see you got it sorted out even before I've read your thread.

    Have Fun!

Just so you know, the loader depends on the game.exe so if the executable doesn't exist or isn't working then the loader won't work either. The loader is a simple game launcher which has a windows mode .dll file hooked inside and depends on the main game executable acting like a shortcut that uses the "-w" parameter.
