    Hello everyone,

Can anyone give some tips on how to improve my latency in-game? Currently i have ~100, its pretty much constant. I am from Europe, Lithuania, have a really good ISP, no speed issues elsewhere on games/net. I have applied Compatibility options on both EuropeBattle.exe and Game.exe. Glide wrapper installed. Windowed mode does not help - still ~100 ping.

Any ideas on how to get my ping lower?

    Thank you!
    G.

P.S. I have decided to dive into D2 again after couple of years. Found your server and read the forum for a while - seems like a really nice community you have there! :)

Well you won't be able to do much about it as ping is mostly related to your connection speed, routing and location (distance between you and the server). A ~100 latency value is actually considered a strong connection in diablo2 (keep in mind that if you obtained this result through /fps and not /p command then calculations are also made depending on graphics/fps/ms etc which is the reason why you get a constant changing value of the ping by using the /fps command. As for /p command it shows the static average latency between you and the server and it updates every 10 minutes).

You might try those gaming reduce ping softwares like wtfast, I've heard people were pretty satisfied with them but not sure if that will work in your case too.

Thanks for the response. I used /p command in game. /fps command does not quite work for me - as it doesn't show anything when I type it.
I will try ping reducing soft, let you know if it worked.

Hey dude, I am from Latvia and I have no issues. My ping is usually around 30-40.

Hey, good to see you. Thanks for sharing.

I have tried WTFast, did not help at all. still ~100 (varies between 95-110). Also tried to put my laptop on a wire internet connection - did not help either.
    Any other ideas?

Might be that your laptop has problems with the game?
How much memmory/processor does d2 use for you?
Maybe the reason is in DEP.

Unless you had a lower latency in the past then you are most likely capped by your internet service provider and probably that's the best you can get with their peering.

DEP cannot influence someones latency for sure, it has a different function related to os and some processes.

Gix, do you know to what server location (country/city or even IP address) I should be connected when playing from Lithuania/Vilnius? (Does it vary?) I will try to compare two ISPs and their latency by running some tests.
    Thanks

I checked - I have 100 ping - and very little lag if any.

You should first get some education in terms of networking @Gedas_LT to understand more on that. In theory, the closer you are to the server, the better the ping as for providers, each of them may have different routings and peerings with other providers, possible maintenances ongoing and so on.

Yes, I understand that. So that is what I am trying to do - test different ISP on the same IP or server location (city) to find out which has the best routing, peering to ensure the lowest latency possible. (implying that ISPs do not run maintenances that I am unaware of)
Could you name your host server company name? I will try to locate possible connections that are geographically closest to my location and run these tests.
    Thanks

We rent our dedicated servers from OVH which is one of the biggest and most reliable hosting providers world wide.
