    Hi all,
I'm playing hc mostly with javazon with 300+mf running pits, cs, ws, etc. and haven't seen any unique items in a while now.
I was also advised by one of the high level player that optimal mf is about 100-200.
I was also checking other players items with maphack and have noticed people barely wear any mf gear or ist runes?

p.s. Why nobody wears Oculus? I personally think that Oculus is best sorc gear only challenged by shard, but thats just personal preference i guess :).

    Hey there,

Most people think of high MF being the same as high unique drops.
But this is not how MF works.
magic items and rare (yellow) items are included in the mf calculation.
If something has a 0.001% of dropping an item and you run 500% mf.
It is still a 0.5% change of the item getting dropped.
    Also:

    • 100% MF does not mean everything will be of magical quality or higher. It means that an item is twice as likely to be magical as opposed to 0% MF.
    • The type of item dropped is internally decided before MF is calculated into the equation. In other words, if the game decides a Short Bow will drop, it will drop. Only then does MF affect what quality the bow will be.
    • MF stands for Magic Find, not Rare, Set, or Unique Find. Although MF will affect the probability of those dropping too, it is not as direct as the relationship to magic items being generated.
    • Not all items are affected by MF. These are items that can only be found in one type of quality, such as runes or potions.
    • MF will work in a limited manner on objects that can only be of magic or unique quality.
    • Luck has nothing to do with MF. If you are lucky, you will find great gear without MF. If you are unlucky, you will not find gear despite massive amounts of MF
    Regards.

It not harmfull exactly, its just not optimal. You need to have a good chunk of MF but optimized gear is also important so i reckon thats why he said that

    EDIT

and to answer your question, im pretty sure MF isnt capped mechanically. But you need to balance between optimal gear (killing power = clearing speed) and MF mod. I think anywhere between 200-400 is cool, i never used more than 400
