Metalgrid's Iron Golem, on a Necro?

My understanding is that normally, if someone's using Metalgrid for the golem, they have to be wearing it when they leave/enter a game or the golem will die.

If a necromancer uses it with at least one point in the actual skill, does that still happen? Can Metalgrid essentially be used to cast a higher-level IG without investing in it directly, since it's pretty common to max Golem Mastery and leave IG itself with only the one point?

 

Very very late response but no the Charged Skills and Class Skills are 2 Different Category that cannot effect each other as the skill in lost once the character un-equips the amulet
