Greetings mates. I´ve read the FAQ, however I would want somebody to confirm the following question: I would like to play next summer with a mate who resides on South America. So, If I connect through the Europe server while he connects to his own Realm, Will we be able to play together? Will we have a good ping? I´ve always had this problem with him.

    Thanks for advance.

Plenty of people from South America are playing in here so he should be good unless he's using a slow internet provider. Best off is to wait till summer and see it for yourself.

So, does it mean US and Europe servers are "connected"? You know, in Blizzard servers, they aren´t.

But thats funny, i play here two for alot of time.
Im from SA too, but i was never able to connect to US server. No matter what, i always was connected to Europe Server.
Installed the usabattle.net zip, and got connected only to EU server......
Thats impact alot of my gameplay, cause at Eu server i got 200-250ms Latency. Us server i got only 140-180ms.
    Why that happens?

Just as @Gix mentioned it's the same realm.
I'm not sure I understand here. You said you were never able to connect to US server (as they are the same server), yet your ping was lower on US server?
There are a lot of factors that can affect your internet quality, things like your ISP's routing, if you're running other software that's using bandwidth, if there are other devices on your network using bandwidth, etc. If you're on a wireless connection there are plenty of other factors that can affect your internet performance as well.

When i say i got 100-150 ms on US Servers, i mean another Servers, not this one. Just to give a example.
d2.usabattle.net / d2.europebattle.net are different DNS names for a SAME ip.
I know about routing and bla bla bla. But THAT's NOT THE POINT. I tested alot of tunnel with different machines of my own.
The point is, why i cant connect to US Server?

@maeltin, first of all that's a higher latency than normal even for Europe as you would normally get between 100ms - 250ms or less from SA depending your provider's routing, however this is not a first person shooter game so you will not be affected as much regardless of what you'd think. Back in the days we used to have separate realms hosted in separate regions just like on vanilla so you had to join the same region as your friend if you wanted to play the game together and you couldn't interact with the other players from a different region while now we're using a single main platform located in FR, which is what the OP was asking in his first post. Sharing the same database, the split is performed automatically using the TCP acceleration technology while creating a solo game or joining another and it depends if the other regional server in BHS has enough free slots, if the particular server is down or if the routing allows it so you cannot manually force a connection.
In all SA countries, bandwidth is extremely expensive therefore routing can vary a lot depending on the provider so lower quality upstreamers could be used, additional hops will take place, etc and that's one of the reasons one could have a lower or higher latency although it's playing from the same region. While the TCP acceleration will do it's best to pick the best scenario and lower the latency per individual, depending on his geolocation, all the other factors such as peering, routing or stability will be limited by the internet provider itself.
TL;DR: Regardless of the gateway being used you cannot manually force a regional connection as the split is being done automatically at the gameserver level and depends if there are enough free slots, if the server is online and if your routing allows it.
Unless you're provider experiences some temporary or isolated technical issues causing the higher latency then you could just be stuck with a bad routing/peering and that's out of our hands. You could try something like WTFast, some people reported me that piece of software worked great for them, no guarantees though.
