There is absolutely no secret on why SC community will always be much bigger than the HC one, regardless of the server you're playing. Probably less than 5% of diablo community can take a permanent loss in case of dying so HC can be considered some sort of exclusive club, besides may I remind you this is a 15 years old game and it's not as popular as it used to be 10 years ago. The fact that we recently peaked about ~1000 players online on the current ladder which is 9 months old is like x20 times more than any average server that existed for the past years as well as the fact that 99% of servers usually become ghost towns (if they aren't ones already) a month or two after a new season is launched as people get bored fast, while we still set new records with our long lasting ladders and much higher than they do during a fresh start hype.

Starting HC when you get bored of playing diablo kinda makes sense since it's more challenging than SC but again, consider HC as an exclusive club which is also the reason why you see so many helpful players (not that SC wouldn't have it's own helpful players, they definetly do). Not everyone is able to keep calm if character dies and they loose all progress, especially that sometime it couldn't even be your fault.

Best thing to do as a HC player and if you want to lure some of the SC players to HC is to always be nice and helpful and whenever you see some game with a low level character inside, join and see if he needs help with a rush and/or some items in case you have any to spare.

Don't take the % I gave as a fixed percentage and keep in mind I am refering to these days, not to how the game was years ago. Things are much more different now and even then it was all about the realm you were playing on. The trend you are talking about used to happen more on the us realms and usually after the fresh season hype was over so couple weeks up to a month, of course there were still lots of hc players since the game was much more popular than today but hc community was never close to the sc community numbers (keep in mind that unlike private realms, non-ladder was also a big part of this game and most players were on non-ladder as seasons were refreshed every few months) but it definetly hosted most spammers and shop sellers since it was more profitable for them.

 

Sounds good. I'm sure others will consider HC if they get rushed, as long as they are able not go crazy in case they die and loose all.
